USING X-WIN32, Version 4.1.1
X-Windows is, as its name implies, a windowing system that is used by UNIX. X-Win32 is an emulator that is used with Microsoft Windows (capital ‘W’). That is, X-Win32 translates commands from the UNIX system into something that Windows can understand.
To create a new session:
- Go to Start->Programs->X-Win32->X-Util32
- Go to Sessions->New Session
- Choose a Session Name…. Something like eagle
- Connect using rexec
- For host name enter eagle.cs.unc.edu
- In Command, type xterm -ls -display $DISPLAY
- Leave the login and password blank.
- Save

Once you have the session created:
- Go to Start->Programs->X-Win32 (to execute the program).
- You should see a blue ‘X’ in your taskbar. Click on it once and then go to Sessions->eagle
- Enter your login and password.
- Type exit from your UNIX account to quit.
- Click on the blue ‘X’ on your taskbar and choose Close to quit the X-Session.
